Adopt a donkey
You can adopt any or all of the donkeys for a minimum donation of €20.00 per donkey per year. All adopters will receive a laminated picture certificate together with regular updates about the donkeys. As we operate solely on the generosity of our supporters, your donation will make a huge difference.
Alin
Little Alin was rescued from Romania. He had been completely abandoned and was found wandering alone, freezing and starving.
Alin was born in 2007 and is a very active little donkey. He spends his time playing tricks on his friends and on the staff. He truly loves red apples!
Clementina
Little Clementina was the first donkey to be born here. Her mother, Bruna, was saved whilst pregnant from a meat market in Switzerland.
Clementina now lives in Il Rifugio's "nursery" with six other foals and their mums. She spends her days playing with the other foals and running around her mum.
Filippo
Filippo was born here in the safety of Il Rifugio. His mother, Sheila, was given life-saving treatment, whilst pregnant, for a deep wound on her belly.
Filippo has a beautiful soft coat and swift legs to run away from mum's reproaches. What he really likes is to snore in the sun!
Ombra
Ombra was saved when she was only 6 months old, together with her pregnant mother. They were all destined for the Italian meat market.
Ombra was born in 2005. She's very friendly and curious. She loves to have people around and apples drive her crazy!
Pufulet
Pufulet was abandoned in Romania and we found him standing in flood water, freezing cold and starving. He was just one year old.
Pufulet has a lot of fun by spending most of his time playing with other donkeys of his age. He's the fastest of the group!
Rufus
Rufus is a handsome skewbald donkey and he was rescued in Switzerland. He had been destined for the meat market.
Rufus was born in 2003. He is a very friendly donkey who loves to have people around and he plays with his friends Ringo, Phoebe and Rosina.
