Visitor Centre Assistant - Ireland

As part of our summer seasonal team we want to recruit a part time team members to work within our Visitor Information Centre Knockardbane, Liscarroll.
Working 35 hours per week from 4th June to 27th September 2013, you will be responsible for advising visitors of the work of the Charities, answering queries and dealing with Donkey World shop sales. You will have excellent customer service skills and have some experience of using IT will be useful; however, full training will be provided.

Abandoned Nollaig issues cry for help - and finds the love he needs

Nollaig, the Irish word for Christmas, was given his name when we rescued him last December. He was the 3,654th donkey in Ireland to find love and compassion at our door. We thought you might like to read about his story, about how we took him into our care on a cold winter's day.
Five days before Christmas, sounds of braying alerted a member of the public to a donkey in distress. Nollaig was found tucked away in a corner of a wet muddy field on a farm in the Buttevant area. His brays had been a cry for help, desperately appealing to anyone who could save him. Paddy Barrett from The Donkey Sanctuary, reported "If it wasn't for his bray, he wouldn't have been found. His bray saved his life."

Horse & Carriage Drive - 26th May 2013

The Donkey Sanctuary are hosting a sponsored Horse & Carriage Drive in conjunction with Dolla Horse & Driving Club from Tipperary.
The drive will start at The Donkey Sanctuary at 1pm, viewers will have the opportunity to take photos and see the horses. There could be between 30 - 40 horses and carriages taking part. The drive will go through Dromina, Churchtown and Liscarroll and back to the Sanctuary. They will stop at The Bridge Bar in Ballyhea for refreshments. More photo opportunites here!

Welfare April 2013 - There are good people out there

We recently received a call from a very concerned local man called Yiannis who had heard that a very thin donkey had died outside of the village he lives in. There was also a young stallion, still alive but thin, and the owner was nowhere to be found.
Yiannis told us he was looking after the donkey to save it from starvation and was furious with the owner. We advised him to call the Government Vet Department and Police and we did the same.

Free Donkey Care Course (Stage 1)

This course is aimed at the new donkey owner and covers all aspects of looking after a donkey including, theory and practical sessions on field management and theory and practical sessions on stable management.

Free Donkey Health Care Day (Stage 2)

If you would like to learn about being a first aider to your donkey we invite you along to our first Donkey Health Care Day. This follows on from the Basic Donkey Care Course and equips you with some very useful advice on how to keep your donkey in tip top health.

Veterinary Nurse (Ireland)

In this challenging and busy role, we are looking for a full time, permanent Veterinary Nurse to be based at The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland (Ltd) which is located near Mallow, Co. Cork.
Working 39 hours per week, you will be responsible for preparing and administering treatments to our resident animals and will assist our Veterinary Surgeons with providing medical and surgical support to the donkeys. Knowledge of equines and a full valid driving licence is essential.

Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Egg Hunt here at The Donkey Sanctuary commenced on Friday 22nd March 2012 and will run every day until Sunday 7th April. Come and join in the fun.
Ten wooden eggs are hidden along the walkway, buy a map and entry form in the Visitors Information Centre for only €2 per child. When you have found all the clues, claim your prize back at the Information Centre and also be added into a draw for larger prizes which will be drawn on Monday 8th April 2012.

Save our donkeys from Rabies in Trikala, Greece - Donkey Sanctuary (Cyprus) Campaign

Donkey Sanctuary (Cyprus) is trying to raise funds for the protection of donkeys in our Licensed Holding Base in Trikala, Greece after a report about rabies on animals in the area. There have been already 6 cases reported in the past few weeks so we hope we will be able to prevent this before it gets to the donkeys.
Local Ministry Vets advised all animal owners to vaccinate their animals in order to protect them from rabies. We want to make sure that the donkeys will be protected from this so we are asking for your help.

Late last night 16 donkeys and 5 mules arrived at The Donkey Sanctuary’s main Italian rescue centre at Sala Biellese, near Turin. The donkeys were recently rescued from appalling conditions by the charity, from an Italian equine trader in Colleferro, Italy.
Staff were shocked when they found 104 animals without food or shelter. Many rescued donkeys were significantly underweight, with severely overgrown hooves. For some animals it was too late.

Art Competition and Exhibition

We are inviting you to take part in an art competition being run by The Donkey Sanctuary. There will be a section for adults and children. The theme for paintings can be anything to do with donkeys in any medium.You would be most welcome to come and take photographs here of our donkeys to give you inspiration for your painting.
Entries can be sent to Art Competition, The Donkey Sanctuary, Liscarroll, Mallow, Co. Cork.
Alternatively, they can be dropped in to the Sanctuary.
Entry fee for children is €2 and for adults is €5.

Fundraising Manager - Ireland

We are looking for a Fundraising Manager to raise and increase the annual income for The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland Ltd; developing and meeting strategic aims and annual fundraising targets, in order to support the care and welfare of donkeys and mules in the Republic of Ireland.
You should have proven experience in a relevant fundraising and/or marketing role and be a Member of the Institute of Fundraising.
The Donkey Sanctuary, Ireland is based near Liscarroll Co. Cork.
