RSS News - Donkey Sanctuary (Cyprus)
Donkey Sanctuary (Cyprus) has its first donkey foal!! Meet Helena who was born in the very early hours of 12th October (show here at one day old).
Her mum, Effie came to us in May and we had absolutely no idea she was pregnant. Effie has a slight problem with her hip and was rather overweight so we put her on a diet. Over the summer she didn’t lose any weight and her shape didn’t change to indicate pregnancy.
An event in aid of the work of Donkey Sanctuary (Cyprus). Join us to dance and sing in the rythms of Cyprus tradition, celebrating donkeys as part of our culture! Do not miss it!

Although we can never replace Ben, we needed to add a donkey to the Adoption Scheme and it didn’t take us long to decide on who it should be. Good looking, mischievous to the point of being sometimes very naughty and always up to something, it had to be Moses.
You may have read about him not long after he arrived last year – full of testosterone, rather aggressive and difficult to get castrated. Well, he has calmed down quite a bit, partly due to the op and partly thanks to his field friends who have taught him some donkey manners.
We were all terribly upset this August when Ben, one of our most beloved donkeys and one of our Adoption Scheme, passed away due to deterioration of his health.
Ben had been under daily treatment for respiratory problems for several months but unfortunately, despite our very best efforts, did not improve and quietly passed away in his sleep. If there had been anything we could have done to prevent Ben's death, we obviously would have done so.
