Protecting donkeys from Sweet Itch
Thu, 15/07/2010 - 09:59You may see some of our donkeys wearing an unusual type of rug. These rugs give our sensitive donkeys protection from the biting midges in the spring and summer. They are called the Culicoide midge and their saliva is particularly irritating to approximately 1% of the donkey herd.

New friends... and old
Wed, 14/07/2010 - 14:54It's been ages since I caught up with you all, so I'll make a start by introducing my new friend Connie who came along to the Sanctuary a few weeks ago with her family.
I just happened to be out on the Main Yard with some other long-ears when I heard the click-click of a camera... never one to miss a photo opportunity!

Three little donkeys!
Mon, 12/07/2010 - 23:21There are three little donkeys that Phil and I always love to visit, and they are Ashley, Zena and Mr Khan! Lots of people know about Ashley the orphaned foal (he even has his own Facebook page) and Zena, the foal born prematurely. Their stories are told elsewhere on this website, so I won't repeat them. Instead I'll tell you about the Ashley, Zena and Mr Khan that we know!

Caring for donkeys... what an experience!
Tue, 06/07/2010 - 14:25At every "donkey carer day" it's great to meet the people who come along to spend time with the donkeys from mucking out, grooming and taking the donkeys for a walk around the Sanctuary. Even when it's pouring with rain or the Sanctuary's covered in a layer of thick fog, their huge smiles and joy of just being with the donkeys shine through so brightly.

Freddie is a special little donkey to me
Mon, 05/07/2010 - 21:49In a corner of a small paddock at Slade Farm, you'll find a little donkey called Freddie. Not everyone notices Freddie as they walk around the Sanctuary, as he tends to keep himself to himself. He shares his paddock with three other donkeys - Eros, Hugo and Hector. Freddie isn't exactly "Top Donk", but I suspect he'd like to be.

Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!
Tue, 22/06/2010 - 10:27After last week's long distraction with the fast-growing baby donks, Phil and I decided to give Ashley, Zena and Mr Khan a wide berth until after lunch. So instead we headed off in search of Ruby, Ruby, Ruby! No, not the Kaiser Chiefs - but a long-legged, long-eared lovely who currently resides with the rest of the Foster Donkeys at Garmston Barn.

Blind donkeys are amazing!
Tue, 15/06/2010 - 18:15Before heading off to the blind donkeys in Shelter 3, Phil and I had to make the obligatory quick 10 minute visit to see Ashley, Zena and Mr Khan - the baby donks! Well of course we had to stay and play for a while - it would have been rude not to! Then we noticed they needed a grooming... and while we were doing that some visitors to the Sanctuary asked us some questions...
