Snow and sun
Posted on 27 February 2018.Even our Rifugio was affected by bad weather which hit Italy lately (the reason why we decided to postpone the day of the volunteers, scheduled for this Sunday), but we did not let ourselves be surprised by the freezing cold!
Thanks to padded blankets, stables kep warm with infrared lamps and, where necessary, extra food, Winter becomes bearable for everyone - even for our elderly donkeys.
We shot a few videos to tell you this morning at our Rifugio and to give you an insider look.
Among others, you can see horse Sogno (our oldest guest), Comptesse and Madalina inside the stalls, where there will stay enough time to eat their extra food quietly, without any other gluttons trying to steal it) and Ken wearing his beautiful padded blanket.
No extra protection (apart from free access to heated stalls) for younger and healthier donkeys. Below you can see Viola, Ginger and Paola who, while enjoying the sun, are curiously approaching the enclosure in search of cuddles:
Our sanctuary under the snow is truly amazing, but if you want to come and visit us these days, we recommend that you wear appropriate footwear and clothing and pay close attention to the ice: our farm staff know it well, as they have to work hard to ensure proper cares to the donkeys whatever the time and temperature are.
