Vincenzino's rescue
Posted on 20 November 2015.A couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday afternoon, we received a phone-call asking our help for a donkey in need in Valsesia, Novara County.
We asked our supporter to contact the authorities (which, according to Italian law, have to be intervene) and obviously we were fully available to support.
So, after several attempts to call authorities with no result, our supporter phoned us again and this time Country Manager Barbara Massa called the Carabinieri in Romagnano Sesia, who promptly verified the reported situation; meanwhile, our supporter called a Vet and succeeded to ask the donkey's owner to release his property to Il Rifugio.
At the same time, our Welfare Team reached poor donkey Vincenzino bringing him to our center in Sala Biellese.
At the time of the rescue, Vincenzino was suffering from a serious colic, wasn't able to stand and his hooves were in awful conditions. The first days here were very critical, and that's why we decided to wait until his overall conditions improved before giving any news.
Now we're really happy to tell you that Vincenzino is getting better (as you can see in the photogallery below).
Our farrier has started to work on his hooves - it will take a long time, also to avoid any unnecessary pain. We're also keeping on giving him medicines and caring his wounds.
The road to full recovery will be very long, and if you would like to walk it with us, please consider making a donation of any amount to support Vincenzino.
Thank you very much for your help!
