New lives for Leo and Gigi
Some years ago, when our welfare adviser Fabrizio went to rescue a donkey family, he found a little pony living with them. His future destination was uncertain and he seemed closely bonded to the three donkeys, so, to keep the group united and not to separate them, Leo the pony joined our Rifugio.
Here he has lived together withGilda and Gilbert, and we always thought it was the best solution for him. But when we moved all four of them into another, bigger group, Leo immediately left his past friends, showing much more interest in horse Sogno. We understood that something was missing for that little pony - the company of other fellow ponies and horses.
So we contacted Progetto Islander, a charity devoted to horse protection, with whom we collaborate, and they were happy to welcome him into their sanctuary. As soon as Leo reached his new group of ponies and horses, he started to run, play and neigh, and the volunteers say: “He has become his group leader and our charity mascot already”.
Just a few days ago, we also moved Gigi the baby mule and his family to the same place. You maybe remember, we gave them temporary shelter so that Gigi, brother Scheggia, pony mum Rita and donkey dad Peppino could recover while Progetto Islander finished building their new home. Now they have become Leo's neigh….bours!
