From Treviso to Sala Biellese: finally a safe home for "Zaia's donkeys"
Pubblicato il 22 May 2015.Nettuno, Paolo, Paola, Giorgina, the four survivor donkeys from project "eco-friendly lawnmowers", which was meant to use donkeys instead of clippers to keep the grass low near the main roads of Treviso county, are finally safe at our Rifugio.
The project was launched in 2004 but faced several problems, many of them involving donkeys.
After years of protests by animal welfare charities and private citizens, finally the project was declared closed and the promoters decided to look for a new home for the retires "lawnmower-donkeys".
Our Welfare Team worked hard with County Official ing. Maurizio Veggis, in charge of reallocating the donkeys, in order to ensure that they found a good home; and as there weren't proper places closer than Il Rifugio, the best solution seemed that they reach our shelter in Sala Biellese, 500 km away!
So, on 20th May, our Welfare Team (Fabrizio Massa and Marianna Lionetti) crossed North Italy to reach Pontioma, a little town near Treviso, where the donkeys lived.
In the late evening, after a long journey with many stops, in order to keep the donkeys relaxed and to monitor their conditions, finally Nettuno, Paolo, Paola and Giorgina reached our Rifugio.
They were totally at ease, and they started grazing some good grass as soon as they took off from the donkey trailer!
“We are really happy to have found a charity with donkeys at heart and we're sure they will provide the best treatment ever" declared ing. Veggis.
“The arrival of these four donkeys was made possible by a huge team work" explains Welfare Officer Fabrizio Massa. "We wish to thank all the people who worked hard to make this rescue possible: ing. Maurizio Veggis, dott.sse Francesca Triban and Daniela Nasato; dott. Daniele Boffo; dott.ssa Manuela Fuser".
"For the future, we do hope that no more donkeys will be used for propaganda in election time, being forgotten just a little bit later” Fabrizio ends.
Now, the four donkeys, whose general conditions look good, will spend 40 days in quarantine, then they will join the other donkeys and will be able to meet our supporters.
