Let Sole shine again
Posted on 21 June 2019.A new donkey has joined our Rifugio today: it is called Sole, Italian for Sun and, in the last two years, his life has been a continuous battle against a very serious dermatitis that disfigures him and gives him no respite.
The former owners contacted us, exhausted and desperate: years of analysis, visits, attempts at treatment, conventional and experimental, did not lead to any improvement, nor did they allow us to understand the causes of the problem.
For Sole, our Rifugio and the specialized care and attention we can give him are the last chances of salvation and to live a life at last serene.
Sole is a young, quiet and reserved donkey - probably because the serious health problems led him to build himself and live in a world of his own. For him, summer is the most tragic season: heat, allergens and flies worsen his condition even more.
This morning we went to pick him up in Casale Monferrato, a little less than two hours from our center in Sala Biellese; we published the first steps at our Sanctuary live on Facebook (you can see them in the video below).
What's next
From today at 11.30, Sole lives in the Isolation area.
The next steps will be the treatment of wounds on the face and new in-depth analyzes to try to understand the reasons for its very serious dermatitis and the therapies to counter it.
His situation is very serious and will require the efforts of everyone - besides, we do not hide it, a bit of luck.
