Goodbye Chicca
Posted on 26 September 2019.With our deep sadness, Chicca (aged 31) who was the oldest donkey of the Refuge, has passed away following a severe case of colic that she was not able to recover from.
Born in 1988, Chicca was welcomed to the Refuge after having lived her first few years with two other donkeys on Lake Orta. Her owner was no longer able to care for them and for Chicca she thought of us, certain that she would find love, care and protection for life.
And it is precisely here that she found great friends who was with her until the very end. Ken, Freckels, Tudor, to name just a few. Chicca enjoyed her life living with some of our elderly donkeys. With them she loved to venture into the woods and particularly appreciated the dust baths. She has always been serene in sharing moments of leisure and rest with her friends.
Although Chicca was the matriarch of the Refuge, she has always been vital, curious and with a tenacious character. She was definitely respected.
She loved cuddles and many visitors who participated in our Grooming Days certainly cannot forget her long and soft coat that curled up in funny tufts with every change of season.
We all remember her with great affection, but above all Francesco, our Groom remembers with tears in his eyes when, during a grooming session, Chicca came to look for him and put her nose on his chest in search of a warm embrace.
Chicca was much loved by all of us, but, above all, by Silvia and Angelo, who had fallen in love with her history and for years supported her, with the exclusive adoption and with all the love of this world. To them go our gratitude and a hug as big as the affection they gave her.
The memory of Francesco for Chicca
We've told each other stories,
how many peaceful days spent even in silence
how many happy moments lived together.
Thank you for all the times you were looking for me,
for all the times you arrived with your sweet step and ... gently, like a caress,
lean your head against mine and give me courage, strength and serenity.
Yes!
Thank you for all the peace you were, with your simplicity.
A tear and a hug
Francis
Goodbye Chicca from all of us at the Refuge.
