Goodbye, "Grandpa" Tudor
Posted on 17 April 2023.Many are the animals arrived at Il Rifugio over the years, to which we could attribute more esteems than certanties: on their past, actual age and inner wounds.
On that past they are not able to tell us, they can only instead let us imagine through their fears and habits.Of those scars that will always remain, though we can try to make them less visible and painful through patience, perseverance and love.
Tudor, probably born in 1993, was one of our elder donkeys which passed away this afternoon.
He had been increasingly slowed down over the past few months, following the rhythm of his cautious walking because of the pain in the hind legs, besides a progressive weight loss due to elderly age and teeth problems.
Small in size, he was found abandoned in the romanian countryside and saved by Save the Dogs and Other Animals in January 2008, to be then relinquished to our Rifugio in the following month of the same year.
Probably used as working animal despite his size, among many doubts, he always gave us certainty of his empathy, always looking for attention and cuddles, until the moment he was sponsored by Silvia, in 2013.
Between them, a really unique relationship.
Silvia has been of vital help to Tudor in the last 10 years, regularly coming to Il Rifugio to watch him through the fences only, to look at his rebirth process.
His new life, in his golden age.
To brush and give him all attention any animal deserves, even if often it doesn't happen; even if, among many doubts, we believe Tudor didn't receive any love before 2008.
Who knows what was ther before Il Rifugio and before Silvia's love.
We can't know your past, Tudor, but we perfectly remember the first time you entered our gates.Of all the times you and Silvia saw each other.Of all the love you always gave us back, with the serenity that we gave you all we could.Until the very last moment.
Have a good trip, “Grandpa” Tudor.
