It looked like am ordinary Saturday morning, but as soon as they entered the enclosure of the donkeys with respiratory diseases, our grooms Magda and Cecco immediately realized that something was wrong. Pippo 2, the tiniest and the eldest (being 21) donkey of his group, could not stand up, he was constantly losing his balance and showing strong pain.
Our vet was called straight forward, but neither his race to the Rifugio and the treatments (fluid therapy, painkillers and antispasmodics) could help: unlike Arianna , with Pippo we have not even had the time to hope for a recovery. The afternoon of the same day he left us because of a severe and untreatable colic with a torsion of the intestine; at his side there was the vet and Cecco, who was always with him and who wanted to dedicate these words:
Men, animals, plants and stones exist in this world.
Strong, brave, trustful
Trustful in a better future
Trustful they will meet other kindred souls
Whoever they are
Men, animals, plants or stones.
I'm trustful we will meet again
Goodbye good soul, have a safe trip.
Goodbye Pippo (2).
We do not add anything else to these touching words, except that its little dimensions were inversely proportional to its courage and its gigantic character, just as giant is the void that has left in us all.
PS Pippo 2 was with us since 2015 and came from Borgosesia. Despite the 2 next to his name, to distinguish him from another Pippo who, at the time, lived at our sanctuary, has always been a number 1.
