Welcome Gigi!
Posted on 29 September 2017.Do you remember Rita, Peppino and Scheggia? In the last newsletter (and in this article) we told you about the story of this family, consisting of mom pony, daddy donkey and their mule son ... who now has become a big brother.
On September 14, little mule Gigi was born, a wonder of nature (and the miniature version of his brother Scheggia)!
The birth took place early in the morning. After a few hours, mom and foal were already in the middle of the meadow, together with daddy Peppino (now castrated) and Scheggia.
Are you a bit surprised that we did not separate them? Actually it is not always necessary to separate the males, in this case, the two males are delicate and protective towards the little one and mum Rita is very serene when they are around. The baby mule, which we called Gigi, seems to have taken the mother's firm character and has immediately learnt to kick around with his tiny hooves.
This lovely family, which we will be accommodating for the coming months before moving to their new home, offered by Project Islander, is in the isolation area which is closed to the public. But don’t worry, you can have a look at our photo-gallery to see them (just click on the picture below).
