Wonder 8 of the Adoption Scheme: March updates
Posted on 25 March 2019.Dear adopters of the Wonder 8 from the Adoption scheme, are you curious to know what they have done recently? Let's hear what tells our groom Cecco (who, together with the other farm staff, every day takes care of them and of all the 125 donkeys and mules homed at our sanctuary).
PS Don't miss the photos and videos that we put on Facebook and on Instagram, often the subjects are the adoption donkeys as well!
Agostino
A few days ago he was carefully checked by the dentist, as part of the routine health controls the same morning, also Clementina and Ombra of the Adoption scheme were inspected as well). His situation is a bit peculiar, both because of the prognathism that distinguishes him and that makes his face recognizable among a thousand, and because, in the past few months, he has had some problems caused by a little fracture in the mandibular bone. The dentist carefully inspected Agostino's mouth and filed a pair of abnormally grown spikes that could cause him some difficulty in chewing. Now he can go back to eating hay (and, drought permitting, the first herb of the season) without hassle and with maximum satisfaction.
Alin
Last week we were happy to welcome the couples who decided to celebrate a belated Valentine's Day at our sanctuary with the donkeys. The meeting took place in the therapist donkeys stable and Alin did the honors (for the greatest joy of Isabella and Gabriel, who chose him for their adoption). When he is not busy biting the fence or taking the part our spring messenger (as in this GIF), he spends his time devoting himself to his favorite pastime: games, races and fights with his fellow-runner Costel. They are divided only when Alin
As you know, he always wants to have everything under control. A couple of days ago, while I was waiting to collect the faeces samples of all the donkeys in the Rufus stall (we do it periodically: the University of Naples, with whom we have been collaborating for years, performs pest control, important for monitoring health and for choosing the best pesticide therapies), I had closed about twenty donkeys in the corridor, so as to better control them and be able to collect and organize the samples of each of them. Soon I heard repeated and insistent knocks on the door: when I went to open, I found Filippo, who immediately slipped in to check what was happening inside. Not happy, he upset the line of the other donkeys, neatly lined up in front of the feeders, slipping between one and the other. In short, his presence always stands out! Last Saturday I noticed a fire that was developing in the woods not far from our sanctuary, behind the fence of the mules: as I headed to check the origin and extent of the fire, Marco followed me by trotting and crying it out in the typical mule's verse, half-way between neigh and bray, curious as always and, this time, even more excited by the exceptional novelty. Obviously, behind him and excited by his enthusiasm, all the other mules and hinnies also arrived to check what was happening... It was not easy to remove and secure this band of curious guys! Fortunately, there were no consequences for our guests and the fire was soon stopped, also thanks to the intervention of the fire brigade and AIB volunteers (despite their speed anyway about 3 thousand square meters of land were hit by the flames). In recent days we have noticed a departure between her and her historic friend Marisa: when Ombra approached her, Marisa pushed her away, looking for another company. A strange attitude, for two donkeys so close, but of short duration: today they are once again the one ... the shadow (this is what "Ombra" means in Italian) of the other! The most likely explanation is the arrival of Spring: it seems a cliché, but the warm season brings, among its other effects, a hormonal "awakening" that the donkeys feel as well as all other beings. Another reason may be the fact that for some time now thay have been integrated to the wider group of the sanctuary, after they had lived for years in a small separate herd, that of donkeys on diet: now Marisa and Ombra have many more companions. We will update you on the developments of their relationship.Have a loot at the latest pictures of the Wonder 8:
