We are a non-profit organization registered in Italy. The vision of Il Rifugio degli Asinelli is that of a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering and their contribution to humanity is fully appreciated.
Whenever we collect personal data, we always ask clear questions about your marketing campaign preferences and provide information on how you can choose if and when to be contacted. As a subsidiary of The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth, Devon EX10 0NU (UK), Il Rifugio degli Asinelli and its charitable and commercial subsidiaries will never sell your data.

According to art. 13 and 14 of EU Regulation no. 2016/679 (hereinafter, “GDPR”), we inform you that the processing of the data you provide will be carried out with methods and procedures aimed at ensuring that the processing of personal data is carried out in compliance with fundamental rights and freedoms, as well as dignity of the interested party, with particular reference to confidentiality and security, personal identity and the right to protection of personal data.
We remind you that processing means any operation or set of operations, carried out with or without the aid of automated processes and applied to personal data or sets of personal data, such as collection, recording, organisation, structuring, storage, adaptation or modification, extraction, consultation, use, communication by transmission, dissemination or any other form of making available, comparison or interconnection, limitation, cancellation or destruction ( art. 4 GDPR).
The data processed by Il Rifugio degli Asinelli Onlus (hereinafter also “Rifugio”) are transmitted via the contractual forms and communications received as part of the company activities carried out by the Rifugio and refer to:
Data collected automatically
The computer systems and applications used in the operation of this website detect, during their normal operation, some data (the transmission of which is implicit in the use of Internet communication protocols) potentially associated with identifiable users. The data collected includes the IP addresses and domain names of the computers used by users who connect to the site, the addresses in URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) notation of the requested resources, the time of the request, the method used to submit the request to the server, the size of the file obtained in response, the numerical code indicating the status of the response given by the server (successful, error, etc.) and other parameters regarding the operating system, the browser and the IT environment used by the user.
This data is processed, for the time strictly necessary, for the sole purpose of obtaining statistical information on the use of the site and to check its regular functioning. The provision of such data is mandatory as it is directly linked to the web browsing experience.
Data provided voluntarily by the user by completing forms
The data that Il Rifugio degli Asinelli can process following its voluntary compilation are personal data (name, surname, tax code), other identifying data (date of birth, characteristics of your home), contact data (telephone number, residence address, email address), data linked to donations made (donation amounts).
The processing of the above data provided by you is subject to your consent. On the contrary, the voluntary sending of emails to our email addresses does not require further information or requests for consent.
The legal basis of this processing is (i) your express and unequivocal consent (ex art. 6.1, letter A) of the GDPR) and (ii) the legitimate interest of the Data Controller (ex art. 6.1, letter f ) of the GDPR).
Personal data is processed for the following purposes:
2.a) Improve your browsing experience and publicise the activities carried out by the Rifugio
2.b) Follow up on your requests for contact, but also for adoption, donation, foster care and/or care of a donkey
2.c) Allow you to purchase the products on sale in our e-shop
2.d) Sending information and promotional material via newsletter.
We would like to inform you that if you have made a donation, an adoption, have taken a donkey into foster care or have decided to provide for its care within the last year, we will be able to send you informative and promotional communications similar to these same activities (such as for example campaigns to request funds or of devolution of the 5X1000), unless consent is withdrawn (art. 7 GDPR).
Rifugio has created a specific mailing list to keep you updated on the activities it carries out, thank you for a donation or to keep you updated on the donkeys you have chosen to support. To be included in this mailing list you do not need to express consent, as an integral part of the service offered by the Rifugio, but if you no longer wish to receive e-mails you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the disclaimer at the bottom of the email received or by sending an email to us.
The processing is limited to the following operations and in the following ways:
- Collection of data from the interested party, by completing paper forms or company applications
- Recording and processing on computerized and paper support
- Organization of archives in a predominantly automated form, through company applications and computerized records.
Data processing occurs using physical, logical and organisational tools which guarantee confidentiality, integrity and availability. The processing is carried out on paper and using information and/or automated systems.
The Rifugio processes personal data for the purposes referred to in point 2 in accordance with the principle of limitation of conservation, pursuant to art. 5, GDPR. In particular:
- The data processed for improving your browsing experience are only processed for the duration of the browsing session
- The personal data processed for contact requests are processed by the Rifugio only for the time necessary to process a response; in the case of adoption, donation, fostering and/or maintenance of a donkey, the processing of your personal data will be carried out within the ten-year ordinary limitation period (for compliance with legal obligations)
- The personal data provided to the Rifugio for the purposes of a purchase from the e-shop are kept for ten years (ordinary limitation period)
- Personal data, for the sending of informative and promotional material by means of newsletters, are processed by the Rifugio within a period of two years, at the end of which the Rifugio will ask you again for consent to the processing or to eliminate the your contact from your mailing lists.
The treatment can be carried out not only by the Rifugio, but also by people authorized to carry out the treatment within the scope of the assigned tasks.
Personal data will not be disclosed outside of the purposes for which consent was expressed, they may also be communicated and processed by third parties appointed and duly appointed as Data Controllers: Companies or entities that, on behalf of the Data Controller, provide specific instrumental or support services and whose right to access your personal data is recognised by provisions of law or secondary or community legislation.
Without the need for express consent, the Data Controller may communicate your data for the purposes referred to in point 2 to the following subjects:
- Supervisory bodies, judicial authorities, control bodies
- Other subjects whose right to access your personal data is recognized by provisions of law or secondary or community legislation.
The management and storage of personal data will take place on servers located within the European Union of the Data Controller and/or third-party companies appointed and duly appointed as Data Processors. The data will not be transferred outside the European Union.
The provision of data for the purposes referred to in point 2a is optional but necessary to proceed with browsing this website. On the contrary, the provision of data for the purposes referred to in points 2b and 2c is optional and the Rifugio will process your data only with your consent.
Any refusal will not compromise navigation of this website. Depending on the settings or privacy policies for social media and messaging services such as Facebook, WhatsApp or X, you may have authorised us to access personal data from those accounts or services.
According to the provisions of the GDPR, the interested party has the following rights towards the Data Controller:
- Obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning him or her are being processed and, if so, to obtain access to the personal data (Right of access art. 15)
- Obtain the rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning him or her without unjustified delay (Right of Rectification art. 16)
- Obtain the deletion of personal data concerning him or her without unjustified delay and the data controller has the obligation to delete the personal data without unjustified delay, if certain conditions exist (Right to be forgotten art. 17)
- Obtain the limitation of processing in certain cases (Right to limit processing art. 18)
- Receive the personal data concerning him or her provided in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and has the right to transmit such data to another data controller, without impediments on the part of the data controller to whom he provided them, in certain cases (Right to data portability art. 20)
- Object at any time, for reasons related to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning you (Right to object art. 21)
- Receive without unjustified delay communication of the violation of personal data suffered by the Data Controller (Article 34)
- Revoke the expressed consent at any time (Conditions for consent art. 7).
Where applicable, the interested party also has the rights referred to in the articles 16-21 GDPR (Right of rectification, right to be forgotten, right to limit processing, right to data portability, right to object), as well as the right to complain to the Guarantor Authority.
