How we work to improve the lives of donkeys
The objectives of Il Rifugio Degli Asinelli are the provision of care, protection and permanent safety of donkeys and mules in need due to illness, mistreatment, poor living conditions or any other circumstance in which they suffer cruelty.
In order to achieve these objectives, we have identified the following key operational activities:
Provision of donkey care
To provide expert and individual care to every resident donkey within the sanctuary, through the provision of highly qualified motivated staff and optimum facilities to cater for the needs of our donkey population.
Donkey welfare support
To provide skilled Donkey Welfare Advisers who monitor and develop foster home placements.
Training, education and awareness
To promote donkey welfare practices through resources, courses, publication or whatever means appropriate.
Fundraising
To actively raise money from many sources in order to carry out our services.
Our facilities
Our headquarters and sanctuary is located in Sala Biellese, in an area immersed in the green woodlands of the Serra hills which runs between the territories of Biella and Ivrea. Here, over 100 donkeys enjoy a peaceful existence in the beautiful Alpine countryside leaving behind any hardships of the past.
Il Rifugio degli Asinelli is a subsidiary of The Donkey Sanctuary, a UK based charity that has been working to improve donkey welfare since 1969.
