Greener and greener!

Our Rifugio is greener and greener: we have changed our old energy provider choosing LifeGate, which provides energy that comes entirely from sustainable resources as water, wind etc.

Besides, LifeGate reduce the impact of CO2 emissions, which unluckily are impossible to avoid, through project “Zero Impact”: the carbon dioxide produced by LifeGate’s activities is offset by contributing to the creation and protection of growing forests capable of reabsorbing it.

Since 1/1/2017 the energy we use comes 100% from sustainable resources

From 17/2 our Rifugio is partially closed to public

In order to complete the prophylaxis agains lice, a part of our Rifugio will be closed to visitors until further notice.

The measure concerns the spaces around the hill (S3 and S4 - elderly donkeys, S6 - donkeys with respiratory diseases, "Stallion area", "Assisted therapy donkeys area), which are temporarily closed to public.

The areas near the stables S1 (small young donkeys), S1 bis (donkeys on diet), S2 (big-sized donkeys) and BB (mules).

UPDATES - Snow and earthquake emergency: what we have done

Almost 38,000 kilos of food have been delivered as a response to the emergency caused by the tragic mix of extraordinary snowfall and earthquake which hit Central Italy.

A first shipment of nearly 25,000 kilos of food were sent a few days ago on the initiative of The Donkey Sanctuary in collaboration with World Horse Welfare and our Rifugio: last Saturday our supplier Cristiano drove from Cuneo to Abruzzo (750 km) to deliver 19.5 tonne of hay and straw; and yesterday 5,000 more kilos of forage were brought in addition to the Storage Centre in Teramo.

Viola wears supports to walk into future

There's no peace for little Viola. While she's finally started to gain weight regularly, thanks to bottle-feeding and special food, new ailments appeared. Because of rickets and a birth defect, she was growing bow-legged; so our vet decided to make her wear special supports.

They are custom-made and need a great attention in posing; but so far Viola's legs are showing clear signs of improvement, so our efforts are worth it.

Once again, Viola has shown us her great strength and will to live; she got used to her supports from the very first time.
